DAZZLE SHIPROCK

Motif derived from Vorticist painter Edward Alexander Wadsworth juxtaposed
with a New Mexican geographic formation:

In an effort to avoid being torpedoed by German U-boats in WWI, bright lines
were painted on the sides of British ships to prevent range-finding technology from correctly
gauging their distance.  The ships were refered to as 'Razzle-dazzle', or "Dazzle ships".

The geological formation is known as Shiprock (or Tsé Bitʼaʼí in Diné) in the artist's
native home, New Mexico.
